Everything you need to know about using SheRecs

How Do I?

How do I add Recs?

To add Recs, click on the "Your RecList" tab on the navigation bar, which is at the top of the SheRecs site. Once there, click "+Add Recs" and search for the category of support you want to share.

How do I edit my profile?

To edit your profile, click on the "Account & Friends" tab on the navigation bar, which is at the top of the SheRecs site. There you will find your profile. You can edit your photo by clicking the camera icon on your photo and your info by clicking the "Edit" button on the top right of your profile.

How do I search for/ add/ remove friends?

To edit friends, click on the "Account & Friends" tab on the navigation bar, which is at the top of the SheRecs site. Beneath your profile, public Recs, and OnHerMind input areas, you will find your Friends as well as options to accept new friends ("Pending") and find/ request friends ("Find Friends"). You can also message, delete, and block friends here.

Membership & Account

Can I subscribe to SheRecs without completing a RecList?

SheRecs is all about sharing and reciprocity. Every community member has something to contribute here, we're sure. But, if adding Recs takes a bit longer for some subscribers than for others, that is ok. You can belong to SheRecs without completing a RecList for now, but as SheRecs evolves, your membership cost and access may be impacted if you don't maintain a minimum number of Recs and update your list quarterly.

Is the account free?

SheRecs is currently free for all subscribers. SheRecs, in the future, may require a minimum number of Recs and RecList updates to maintain free membership and may introduce tiered membership options, some of which will not be free. FoundingCircle members (people who are here now) who maintain at least ten Recs in their RecLists and edit their RecLists at least quarterly will maintain a free membership even as SheRecs evolves.

How do I invite my friends to SheRecs?

For now, as we continue to test SheRecs, we are limiting membership tightly. Only our FoundingCircle members–those personally invited by the SheRecs team to join at this early stage–can access SheRecs, currently. In the near future, we will welcome (beg?) you to share your unique invitation code with friends in your community whom you would like to invite to join SheRecs. Your invitation code is shared at signup and can always be found later from your "Account & Friends" tab under "Settings."

Can I invite men to SheRecs?

I Rec, You Rec, They Rec, He Recs, She Recs. Once we begin to expand, any person 18 or older is welcome here. Please invite any potential community members who would contribute valuably to and benefit from this community.

Recs + Your RecList

Whom should I Rec?

When completing your RecList, only recommend adult (we love our teen babysitters, but 18+ here) service providers that you or your family members have used and that you would proudly suggest that your friends should use. Feel free to Rec multiple service providers in the same category. Consider the following when deciding whether or not to recommend a service provider:

  • If I needed this service again, would I be happy to use this provider again?
  • If asked to rate this provider, would I give this person four or five stars?
  • Would my friends benefit from using this provider if they needed this service?
  • Does this service provider still operate?
  • Is this service provider accepting new clients or maintaining a waitlist that potential clients can join?

Do I have to include a Rec for every service in the RecList?

No. While a minimum number of Recs may be necessary for a free account/ full access in the future, please only recommend service providers whom you or your family have used and that you'd suggest to dear friends. We know that very few members will have Recs for most categories. If we all did, we wouldn't find much use in SheRecs.

Can people dislike a recommendation?

Users cannot dislike a recommendation. Any recommendations shared are the opinion of the subscriber who chose to share the recommendation. Of course because one person liked the services, does not mean that everyone will. But in an effort to keep the information provided simple and straightforward and to maintain a supportive, positive, trusting environment, there is no ability to dislike. If any user has serious concerns about a service provider recommended, please report issues to SheRecs directly at contact@sherecs.com.

What if I have a recommendation that does not fit in any categories on the list?

Some great service providers may not fit in any categories listed on the RecList. Please contact us at contact@sherecs.com to let us know if there are any important self/ family/ home care services that we haven't thought to include yet. Maybe we will realize that we need to add a new category to our RecList thanks to you. Also, please be on the look out for new category sections launching soon.

What if I want to recommend a service I have used on vacation?

Please include any Recs beyond your local area that you want to share in your RecList. Be sure to input the zip code (or the zip code you were in when you accessed the services) in the appropriate place on the RecList. While we believe there is value in connecting service providers in our neighborhoods to our friends and neighbors, as SheRecs grows, we do hope to offer Recs beyond just one local area. And we know that often subscribers travel to the same places as their friends and neighbors. So please share Recs outside of your local area but be sure to indicate their location.

Do I need to share service providers' contact info when I input them in my RecList?

Yes, though SheRecs will not pass it along with other subscribers at this point, please input the service provider's best contact information; you can choose to input their phone number, email, instagram, or website. Sharing service providers' contact info will allow SheRecs, in a future iteration, to contact them to allow them to opt out of SheRecs or to decide to what extent we can share their contact information on our platform.

Why can't I see service providers' contact info when I search for Recs?

We are not sharing service providers' contact information yet because we would like to give service providers a chance to opt-out of or into our platform prior to sharing their information. In a future iteration, SheRecs will verify providers' interest in being included on our platform and then share information accordingly.

Can I save other community members' Recs?

Yes. When you heart (click the heart button in the top right corner of the Rec) a Rec, it is added to your "Liked" section, which you can find in the "RecList" tab of our site when you are logged in.

What if no one in my network or community has the recommendations that I am looking for?

Are we RecLess–no one in your network or community has a recommendation you're looking for? Oh no! We're just getting going, and we know that with our community members' help we will ultimately have so many recommendations to share. For now, please help us grow by reporting RecLess services at contact@sherecs.com, and we will let the community know we are seeking recommendations of those services. Also, down the line please share any service providers in that space that you may find and would recommend by adding them to your RecList. Finally, as SheRecs expands please share your referral code with friends whom you would want to join the SheRecs community in hopes that those future users have some great new Recs for us all. As we grow, we hope to be less RecLess.

I am a subscriber & a service provider. Can I recommend myself?

Service providers can not access SheRecs for the purpose of connecting with potential clients. But SheRecs of course welcomes service providers as subscribers, as individual service providers are SheRecs community members who themselves are searching for other providers and have a RecList full of other services they would recommend. If they recommend themselves or their organizations for a particular service, we trust that they have used, would use again, would highly rate, and think a friend would be happy with the service.

Privacy & Safety

Who can see my profile?

Only friends whom you have requested or accepted can see your full profile. Other subscribers only see your public-facing profile, which contains very limited info: your picture, your name, and your city along with any public Recs that you have shared and your HotRec.

Will people be able to see my RecList?

No one but you will ever see your entire RecList–not even your friends. Your individual Recs will only be shared with your name when they match criteria that one of your friends are searching for and without your name (blindly) when they match criteria that one of your neighbors (in/ near your zipcode) or friends-of-friends are searching for.

Does SheRecs verify recommendations?

SheRecs does not verify recommendations. We make no claims as to the accuracy of the subscribers' recommendations, the quality of the recommended services, or the recommended service providers' qualifications. Recommendations provided on SheRecs are those of the individual subscribers' only, and one subscriber's positive experience does not guarantee another subscriber's positive experience. SheRecs recommends that subscribers, guided by common sense, use SheRecs as a starting point to source Recs and can further check Recs, including background checking service providers, as needed.

When people who aren't my friends search for a service I've recommended, what info will they be able to see?

When community members who are not your friends are searching for a service, their friends' recommendations will populate first. If they choose to look at Recs beyond those provided by their friends, they will be able to view blinded (with no name associated) Recs from neighbors and friends-of-friends. By default, the name of the recommender is never visible to non-friends. Though in privacy settings, on your profile, and as you input to your RecList, there are options that allow you to choose to share your name along with your Recs more publicly. When a community member would like more info about a blinded Rec, they can request to DM the recommender, who can choose whether or not to respond (& in doing so share her identity).

Can I block certain users?

If there are any community members with whom you don't feel comfortable sharing your Recs, you can block them entirely in privacy settings.

How will SheRecs use service providers' contact info?

For now, while the contact info you provide will be saved along with your Rec and accessible to you on your RecList, SheRecs will not share that contact info with anyone. In a future iteration, SheRecs will use that contact information to reach out to the service provider to inquire whether or not they want to be included on SheRecs and the extent to which they are comfortable sharing their contact info through our site.

Will service providers' contact information be shared with subscribers?

At this moment, service providers' contact info will not be shared with subscribers. If a subscriber would like to contact a service provider discovered in a Rec, they can message the recommending subscriber for more info or search for the service provider outside of our platform. In a future iteration, SheRecs may share a service provider's contact information only if the service provider has agreed to have their contact information shared. Otherwise, subscribers are able to DM the recommender for contact information or search for their contact information.

For more, see our Privacy Policy.

More Questions

What is a HotRec?

HotRecs are prompts that invite members to share non-service provider Recs. Some prompts are lighthearted and some invite hot takes, but hopefully they all get people talking and help members discover things maybe they didn't even know they were looking for. HotRec prompts are publicly shared.

What is GetToKnowHer?

GetToKnowHer prompts invite members to share little bits of information about themselves, sometimes in the form of quick games, in an effort to help our community members connect with each other. Because SheRecs is all about connecting and Recs. In privacy settings, you can elect to share your GetToKnowHer responses publicly or only with friends.

What can I find on the "Feed"?

On your feed you will find content from SheRecs ("xoxo, SheRecs") and content from fellow SheRecs community members ("GetToKnowHer", "HotRec", and "OnHerMind"). As SheRecs evolves, we will decide the best way to present the feed information. Initially however, the various categories are separated, with various tabs at the top of the feed.

Is SheRecs expanding?

Yes. We hope to finetune first in this area and then grow membership in other areas. If you're interested in establishing SheRecs near you, reach out at partner@sherecs.com.

I'm interested in partnering with/ working with/ interning at/ advertising with SheRecs?

While we're not hiring now, we are always looking for talented interns and interested in exploring partnerships. We also would love to connect with complementary brands. Please reach out to us at partner@sherecs.com so we can learn more.

Will there be advertisements on SheRecs?

When you search for Recs, every return will be service providers recommended by our community. So, while ads will never appear as Recs on our site, ads may appear in other spaces. Please reach out to us at partner@sherecs.com if you are interested in advertising with us.

How do I contact the SheRecs Team?
