SheRecs Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2026

At SheRecs, we believe privacy and trust go hand in hand. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share your information when you use SheRecs.com. We've written this in plain language because we want you to actually understand what happens with your data.

By using SheRecs, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy and our User Agreement.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

When you create a SheRecs account and use our platform, you provide us with:

Profile Information:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • City, state, and zip code
  • Profile photo
  • Optional profile notes or biographical information you choose to share

Recommendation Information (RecCards):

  • Service provider details (business name, contact information, location)
  • Service and access details you select from our menus
  • Your value rating of the provider
  • Your personal notes (up to 175 characters) about what you like

Community Engagement:

  • Messages you send to other members through our platform
  • Responses to community games (HotRecs, GetToKnowHer)
  • Comments on friends' posts
  • Friend connections and invitations

Information We Collect Automatically

When you use SheRecs, we automatically collect certain technical information:

  • Device and Usage Information: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and how you interact with our platform
  • Log Information: Access times, pages viewed, and actions taken on the platform

This helps us understand how people use SheRecs, troubleshoot technical issues, and improve our service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide and Improve SheRecs

  • Create and maintain your account
  • Connect you with friends on the platform
  • Show you relevant recommendations from your network
  • Enable you to search for and share recommendations
  • Facilitate messaging between members
  • Provide customer support and respond to your questions

Build Community

  • Enable participation in community games and features
  • Allow friends to find and connect with you
  • Show your recommendations to the right people based on your privacy settings

Communicate with You

  • Send account-related emails (welcome messages, password resets, account status updates)
  • Notify you of important platform updates or changes
  • Respond to your questions or feedback

Contact Service Providers (Planned Feature)

In the future, we plan to use the service provider contact information you include in your RecCards to:

  • Notify providers that they've been recommended on SheRecs
  • Let providers know which member(s) recommended them
  • Give providers the option to opt out of SheRecs entirely, opt in to sharing their contact information as you provided it, or create an enhanced provider profile on our partner site

If a provider opts in to sharing their contact information, that contact information may become visible to your friends (and potentially others, depending on your privacy settings) when they view your RecCard.

When this feature launches, we will update you and give you clear information about how it works.

Maintain Safety and Trust

  • Monitor for violations of our User Agreement
  • Prevent spam, fraud, or abuse
  • Protect the safety and integrity of our community

3. How Your Information Is Shared

SheRecs is built on trust and control. Here's exactly how your information is shared with others:

Your Profile Information

  • Name, city, and profile photo: Visible to all SheRecs members who can find you through search or see your recommendations
  • State and zip code: Used for matching you with neighbors but displayed only as city on your public profile
  • Email address: Never visible to other members, though friends can search for you using your email to send friend requests
  • Additional profile notes: Visible only to your accepted friends (not to neighbors or the wider community)

Your Recommendations (RecCards)

To Your Friends:

  • Friends see your full RecCard (all service and access details, your value rating, your notes)
  • Friends see your name as the recommender
  • Friends see individual RecCards only when they appear in search results—they never see your entire RecList
  • Friends do NOT currently see the service provider's contact information (phone, email, address)
  • In the future, once we implement service provider notifications, friends may see contact information if the provider opts in to sharing it

To Neighbors and Friends of Friends (Blinded Recs):

By default, when members in your zip code or friends of your friends search for a service you've recommended:

  • They see your full RecCard details (service info, ratings, notes)
  • They see "Recommender" instead of your name
  • They can send you a message request through the platform
  • Your name is only revealed if you choose to respond to their message
  • They do NOT see the service provider's contact information

Public Recs (Optional):

You can choose to make specific RecCards or all of your RecCards "public," meaning your name will be associated with them beyond just your friends. This is entirely optional and controlled by your privacy settings.

To Service Providers (Planned Feature)

When we implement service provider notifications:

  • Providers will learn that you specifically recommended them (your recommendation will never be anonymous to them)
  • Providers will receive the contact information you provided for their business
  • If a provider opts out, we will remove that RecCard entirely and notify you

Your Messages

Messages you send through SheRecs are visible only to you and the recipient(s). We store messages for the duration of your membership but do not read, analyze, or share them except as required by law.

Community Game Responses

When you participate in HotRecs, GetToKnowHer, or other community features, your responses are visible to all SheRecs members as indicated within each game. Friends may also be able to comment on certain posts.

We Do NOT Share Your Information With:

  • Advertisers or marketing companies
  • Data brokers
  • Social media platforms
  • Anyone trying to buy or rent our user data

We do not sell your information. Period.

4. Third-Party Services

SheRecs uses a limited number of third-party services to operate our platform:

  • Supabase: Hosts and secures our database
  • GoDaddy: Provides website hosting and SSL security certificates
  • Google Workspace: Manages our email communications with you
  • Analytics tools: We may use analytics services (such as those provided by GoDaddy) to understand how our platform is used and where we can improve

These service providers have access only to the information necessary to perform their functions and are required to protect your data.

As we grow, we may add additional service providers (for example, email notification services or payment processors if we introduce paid features). We will update this Privacy Policy to reflect any significant changes.

5. How We Protect Your Information

We take security seriously and implement reasonable safeguards to protect your personal information:

  • Our website uses SSL encryption (HTTPS) to secure data transmission
  • Our database (Supabase) employs industry-standard security measures
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only
  • We regularly review our security practices

However, no system is 100% secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use strong passwords and keep your login credentials confidential.

6. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with SheRecs services.

If You Delete Your Account:

  • Your profile, RecCards, and associated data will be permanently deleted from our systems
  • Complete removal may take up to two weeks to process through our database
  • Some information may be retained in backup systems for a limited time for legal or technical reasons
  • Messages you sent to others may remain visible to those recipients even after you delete your account

If You Delete Individual RecCards:

Those specific recommendations are removed immediately from search results and your RecList.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your information on SheRecs:

Access and Update

You can access and update your profile information, RecCards, and privacy settings at any time through your account.

Privacy Settings

You control:

  • Which RecCards are shared only with friends (default) vs. made public
  • Who can see different parts of your profile
  • Whether you want to participate in community features

Delete Your Data

You can delete individual RecCards or your entire account at any time. Account deletion removes your information from our platform as described in Section 6.

Communication Preferences

You can manage email preferences for non-essential communications. We'll always send you critical account-related emails (like security notifications) regardless of your preferences.

Export Your Data

If you'd like a copy of your data, contact us at support@sherecs.com and we'll work with you to provide it.

8. Children's Privacy

SheRecs is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we discover that someone under 18 has created an account, we will delete it promptly.

Additionally, all service providers recommended on SheRecs should be 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect or maintain information about service providers who are minors.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information or has been recommended as a service provider, please contact us at support@sherecs.com.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Because we're in beta and evolving quickly, this Privacy Policy may change. When we make changes:

  • We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top
  • For minor changes, we'll post the updated policy and continue operating normally
  • For significant changes (especially those affecting how we use or share your data), we'll notify you by email and/or with a prominent notice on SheRecs and give you the opportunity to review the changes before they take effect

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we're protecting your information.

10. Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests (such as subpoenas, court orders, or law enforcement requests). We may also disclose information when we believe it's necessary to:

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Protect the safety, rights, or property of SheRecs, our users, or others

  • Enforce our User Agreement
